It's great to have a website dedicated to important communications and everything you need to know about the ski school. It helps both instructors and clients navigate the ski school, both organizationally and in terms of reliability and professionalism.

The only downside, in my opinion, is the complex design of the menu interface, which isn't particularly intuitive, although this is a problem that resolves itself with consistent use of the website.

Top! I've been using them for over two years, and the results are incredible. At 40, and afraid to let go of my board, it was a real challenge for me. But Nicola is the best! Technique, talent, and kindness: he helped me push my limits. If you want real results, trust him and Giorgio Rocca's school! And Veronica is second to none for all the office management: always available and smiling. I adore you!

YOUR SKI LESSONS FOR CONFIDENCE ON THE PISTE

St. Moritz is built for smooth, confidence-building learning. You’ll find lessons for every level and age, from first-timers to advanced skiers and riders chasing off-piste. In practice, most schools structure their offer around four pillars:

  • Beginners start on gentle terrain with clear, step-by-step instruction. The aim is comfort: standing, sliding, controlling speed, then linking first turns, without feeling rushed.
  • Intermediates work on consistent parallel turns, edging, and early-edge engagement for carving. Expect focused drills on body position and rhythm, then mileage on forgiving red runs to cement confidence.
  • Advanced skiers & snowboarders book tailored coaching from steeps and variable snow to freeride/off-piste with certified guides. If you want variety or a push out of your comfort zone, this track keeps things safe and structured.
  • Children’s programs usually begin from about age 3 and are playful, bilingual and safety-first. Think snow gardens, games, and small wins that stack quickly.
  • From my own days on these pistes, the tone is professional and calm. Small group sizes really do accelerate learning; you’re not waiting in a long snake of people for feedback. And when I booked a private, the instructor met us right at the base lift logistics that remove stress so you can focus on your feet. The cherry on top: St. Moritz’s famously well-groomed runs. On quiet mornings they feel like velvet, which makes those first parallel turns feel safe, not scary.

Who this suits: families who value structure, adults who want premium instruction in English (or German/Italian/French), and motivated intermediates who want to unlock carving and control on steeper terrain.

What St. Moritz Ski Schools Offer

St Moritz Ski School for your ski and snowboard lessons with a simple goal: fast, safe progress for every level in a premium, stress-free setting. From first slides to off-piste coaching, our instructors match terrain to your goals, keep groups intentionally small.  In private lessons your instructor sometimes meets you at the base lift so the day flows from the first minute.

St. Moritz’s famously immaculate grooming and calm morning pistes make technique click sooner; it’s why so many learners move from snowplough to confident parallel within just a few sessions. Multilingual coaches (English/German/Italian/French), smooth logistics, and a clear plan each day mean you spend more time actually skiing, less time figuring things out.

Beginners: Gentle Slopes and Step by Step Coaching

Your first sessions will focus on stance, balance, and controlled speed. Instructors lean into gentle gradients and clear progressions think side-slipping → falling-leaf → first linked turns. I’ve seen many adults go from snowplough only to linking confident parallel turns within a few short lessons, especially with calm conditions and those perfectly groomed pistes St. Moritz is known for.

Coach’s checklist you’ll likely cover:

  1. Boot setup & fore-aft balance
  2. Speed control through turn shape (not panic braking)
  3. Looking where you want to go (your shoulders follow your eyes)
  4. Gradually narrowing the plough into a parallel finish

Tip: Book mornings if you’re nervous; snow is quieter and flatter, and that matters for confidence.

Intermediates: parallel turns, carving & confidence on reds

If you’re already parallel, the big wins come from edge control and timing. Expect drills like javelin turns, outside-ski pressure, and short-radius turns on mellow reds before you ramp up gradient. My personal unlock was visualizing “tall at transition, strong on the outside ski mid-turn” it cures skiddy exits and sets you up for true carving when the snow allows.

Session flow I love for intermediates:

  • Warm-up on a forgiving blue to re-find balance
  • Two focused drills (e.g., ankle tipping + pole-plant timing)
  • Mileage on a long red, linking it all together
  • Short video review at the lift to speed up understanding

Advanced Ski & Snowboard Tailored coaching

With a ski or snowboarding school, advanced skiers and riders can book bespoke coaching and, when conditions permit, freeride/off-piste with certified guides. A good session might blend short-turn dynamics on steeps, variable snow tactics (bumps, crud), and line choice for stability. If you’re a snowboarder, coaches commonly work on high-edge carves, switch confidence, and freestyle basics in a safe, progressive format. I’ve booked add-on freestyle hours for variety just enough park to be fun without wrecking the legs for the next day.

Safety note: in off-piste terrain, expect a proper avalanche briefing, equipment checks, and conservative line selection on low-visibility days.

Privates Skitraining am Nachmittag in St. Moritz – ein erfahrener GR Mountain Instruktor begleitet ein Kind beim Techniktraining auf den sonnigen Hängen des Engadins.

With our ski school, kids are split by age and ability, often with bilingual instructors. Expect guided games that teach edging and balance, magic carpets or enclosed areas, and supervised lunches on full-day programs so parents can roam guilt-free.

From watching my niece there, the biggest gains came from clear structure and repetition: a warm-up game, focused drill (like “airplane arms” for balance), a reward (sticker, badge), and a short free-ski segment. The result was day-by-day confidence without tears, and she started linking little parallel turns before the week ended.

Snowboard Lessons: Beginner to Freestyle Basics

From first sideslips to linking turns and refining switch, our snowboard instructors focus on stance, edge control, and rhythm. For riders ready to play, we add safe introductions to flat-ground tricks and small features (conditions and park status permitting).

Rentals, lift passes & starting from your hotel

  • Gear rental is straightforward via partner shops or coordinated by the school. Get boot fitting right; comfort is non-negotiable.
  • Lift passes: ask St Moritz Gr- Mountain which pass tier matches your lesson plan so you’re not overbuying.
  • Start smart: many privates can start at your hotel or the most sensible base station I’ve done both, and it’s a genuine stress reducer on family trips.

Language & Teaching Style: English-speaking instructors and small groups

You’ll commonly find instructors who speak English, German, Italian, and French. Lessons in St. Moritz skew calm, organized, and precise with a nice dose of warmth. In my experience, even nervous adults relax quickly thanks to patient, encouraging feedback, and small groups keep the pace personal. That’s how people leap from “I’m terrified of steeper blues” to “I’m carving controlled lines on reds” in a few sessions.

Advanced riders see quantifiable shifts too cleaner edge angles, tighter short turns, or a first foray into off-piste with a guide. The common thread is clear structure and professional pacing that makes progress feel earned, not lucky.

  • Season: Late November–early May. Busiest December–March.
  • Meeting points: Commonly at Corviglia or Corvatsch base stations; We also offers hotel meet-ups for privates.
  • Kids’ lunches: Many schools offer supervised lunches handy for full-day adult mileage.
  • Languages: English/German/Italian/French are standard.
  • Weather backup: Flat light? Choose lower, tree-lined options or aspects with better contrast; ask for technique blocks (balance/pressure drills) when visibility is limited.
  • Transfers: Stick to one area per lesson day to avoid wasting laps moving between zones.
  • Booking: Reserve ahead, especially Christmas and February.
  • Gear: Coordinate rentals through the school or partner shops; confirm pickup the day before your first lesson to avoid morning scrambles.

St. Moritz is a premium destination. To get the best value, control what you can: timing, format, and run plan.

  • Peak weeks: Christmas/New Year and February half-term are the crunch. Pre-book lessons and rentals; last-minute spots do disappear, especially mornings and kids’ programs.
  • Season: Typically late November to early May, with the busiest spell from December to March.
  • Private vs. Group cost: Private runs higher but multiplies progress per hour; small groups strike a balance. Families often mix formats: privates for day 1–2, then small groups when everyone finds their feet.
  • What sells out first: English-speaking instructors in peak weeks, kids (3–6) morning groups, and hotel pick-up slots.

Pro tip: Ask for flexible start points (hotel or the base lift you prefer). I’ve had instructors meet us at Corviglia to save time and energy on day one, which paid back in extra runs.

Christmas & February Ski tips (book smart)

  • Lock lessons 4–8 weeks ahead for peak dates.
  • If mornings are gone, grab late-morning starts (often quieter than first lifts once rush passes).
  • Consider two-hour blocks over three consecutive days instead of one marathon; energy and assimilation stay higher.
  • Weather hedge: fog/flat light happens choose terrain with trees or aspect that holds contrast, and let your instructor steer the day.

FAQs

How early should I book for Christmas week?
As early as possible aim for 4–8 weeks out for morning slots, kids’ programs, and English-speaking instructors.

Where do kids meet for lessons?
Often at Corviglia or Corvatsch base areas in clearly marked kids’ zones. Exact points vary by school; your confirmation email will specify.

Can private lessons start at my hotel?
Often, yes. Our instructors will meet at your hotel or the most convenient base lift when possible.

What progress is realistic in three lessons?
For true beginners: controlled parallel on easy blues, sometimes early confidence on mellow reds. For intermediates: cleaner edge use, better rhythm, and first real carves on suitable snow.

Do you offer certified off-piste guiding?
Yes, book advanced coaching with a certified guide, and expect a safety briefing plus appropriate equipment.

Are lessons available in English?
Absolutely, English is widely spoken (alongside German, Italian, and French).
